What books do you buy?

Books with an ISBN that still sell well used: textbooks, nonfiction, professional and technical books, and popular titles. Type the ISBN on the home page and you'll see right away whether we can make an offer.

How do you set the price?

Each offer is based on what that edition sells for used and how quickly it sells. Prices change with demand, so the same book can be worth more or less next month.

Why can't you buy some of my books?

Some books sell for too little to cover shipping and handling, some barely sell at all, and brand-new editions don't have a used-price history yet. You're welcome to bring those to our free drop-off.

Is shipping really free?

Yes. Once your books add up to $10 or more, we e-mail you a prepaid USPS label for one box. You pack the books and drop the box at any post office.

How long do I have to ship?

7 days from when you place your order. After that the offers expire and you can look the books up again for new ones.

When and how do I get paid?

We check each book when your box arrives and pay by PayPal or Venmo, usually within 3 business days of receiving it. You'll get an e-mail at each step.

What condition do books need to be in?

The book must match the ISBN you entered (same edition and binding) and be in good, resalable condition. We can't accept books that are torn, have loose or missing pages, are wet, water-damaged or moldy, have heavy writing or highlighting, are ex-library copies, or are missing a required access code or CD. Normal wear and light highlighting on a few pages are fine.

What happens to books you can't accept?

We recycle them, unless you asked us at checkout to send them back. In that case the return postage comes out of your payment.

Is there a limit?

We buy up to a set amount each day. If we reach it, you can still look books up, and checkout opens again the next morning.

Do you buy books in person?

Not at the warehouse. Our drop-off is free and we don't pay for books dropped off. Schools, libraries and other organizations selling in bulk can contact us here.

Are drop-offs tax-deductible?

No. Stacked Reads is a business, not a charity, so we can't give tax receipts. The drop-off is free.
